How to Measure Your Dog Crate for the Perfect Tray Fit

How to Measure Your Dog Crate for the Perfect Tray Fit

⚠️ Most returns occur due to incorrect measurements. Always measure the interior floor.

Most sizing issues happen because customers measure the outside of the crate instead of the interior floor.

PortaTray trays are designed to fit inside the base of your wire crate, not around the outer frame.

Follow these steps for the correct measurement.

Step 1: Remove the Existing Tray

Slide out the plastic tray completely so you can see the crate’s interior base.

Step 2: Measure the Interior Floor Length

Place your tape measure inside the crate, resting flat on the bottom wire frame.

Measure from the inside front bar to the inside back bar.

Do NOT measure the outside of the crate.

Step 3: Measure the Interior Floor Width

Measure from the inside left bar to the inside right bar, resting the tape directly on the bottom wire frame.

Step 4: Order Slightly Smaller for Proper Fit

For the best fit:

Order your tray approximately 1/4 inch smaller than your interior floor measurement.

Example:
If your interior measures 41-1/2" x 27-1/2", order a tray approximately 41-1/4" x 27-1/4".

This allows the tray to slide in smoothly.

Important: Crate Sizes Are Nominal

Crates labeled as “42-inch” or “48-inch” are nominal sizes.
The interior tray space is always smaller.

Always measure your specific crate before ordering.
